Jean-Luc Puyaubran - Head of Drilling & Well Department of Total Exploration & Production Netherlands

Jean-Luc graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in mechanical and industrial engineering. He began his career in the Oil & Gas industry at Pride International in 1998.

He worked for almost twenty years for this oil drilling company in different countries such as Algeria, South Africa, Brazil, Pakistan, Angola and the United States, from Responsible for rig maintenance to Responsible of operational procedures team.

In 2007, he joined Total as Supervisor of night drilling and then as Drilling engineer in Libya. Jean-Luc went to Nigeria in 2011 where he became Head of the new projects and operations support department.

From 2014, he held the position of Head of the drilling and wells department of the exploration blocks of the Angolan subsidiary. After this African experience, he moved to the Netherlands, where he has been managing since 2017 the Drilling & Well department of Total Exploration & Production Netherlands, turned to very technical interventions on mature fields.

Projects

In his career, Jean-Luc has been involved in a variety of projects with different themes:

  • Drilling in extreme conditions, off the south of South Africa
  • Thunder Horse project: largest platform in the world, in the Gulf of Mexico, operating for BP, in very deep water (1,500 - 2,000 meters of water)
  • OFON Phase 2 Development Project, in conventional offshore (jack-up)
  • Angola deepwater sub-salt exploration well project (2,000 meters of water)
  • Ultra-deep exploration project (3,600 meters of water) in Angola
  • Optimizing the production of mature gas fields by implementing new technologies in the Netherlands
