Martin Poirier - Marine Specialist and Specialist in Dynamic Positioning

After graduating from the French Maritime Academy of Marseille, Martin started his career in the offshore oil industry in 2002, first as an engineer, then a navigation officer, and finally as a dynamic positioning operator on utility and offshore support vessels.

After passing his master mariner's certificate ("unlimited master") in 2009, he continued his offshore career as a vessel captain. In 2012, he joined the Exploration & Production branch of Total, in Paris, as a marine specialist before taking the helm of the "Dynamic Positioning" work group, one year later.

In charge of marine support for various projects, mostly in the deep offshore and in harsh environments, he joined the operations team of Total Exploration & Production Brazil & Uruguay in 2015.

Projects

Before holding his current position, Martin served as marine advisor, preparing and monitoring marine operations for several offshore projects in South Africa, Angola, Congo, Scotland, Gabon and Libya.

  • After the Raya-1 project, in collaboration with Kongsberg and with the support of Total Exploration & Production's Drilling R&D team, Martin Poirier contributed to the development of a new operating software for a Riser Management System ("Kongsberg RMS V2.2"), for which he registered the trade mark DynWSOG® (Dynamic Well Specific Operating Guidelines) on behalf of Total.
