Drilling & Wells

Nicolas Baudouin - DrillX Manager - Drilling & Wells - Exploration & Production - Total

Nicolas Baudouin - Head of DrillX Program

Nicolas holds degrees in industrial process engineering from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines (Nancy, France) and in petroleum engineering from IFP School (Paris, France). He started working at Total in 2006 as part of the Drilling & Completion teams. From 2006 to 2016, he prepared and implemented several Total drilling programs in varied and demanding environments. His journey took him to Cameroon, Brunei for high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) exploration, Nigeria and the United Kingdom, where he initially worked west of the Shetland Islands in deepwater fields and then led the well engineering team for the Elgin redevelopment after a well lost integrity in 2012 (HP/HT fields).

He returned to headquarters in early 2016 and joined the teams in charge of negotiating the contract with Iran to develop phase 11 of the South Pars field. When the contract was signed, he moved to the South Pars 11 project team to manage the drilling and wells team and package for the project.

After new American economic sanctions were imposed on Iran in May 2018, the South Pars 11 project was halted. Nicolas was appointed Head of DrillX program in the summer of 2018, overseeing the digital transformation of drilling operations. With his cross-functional drilling data and IT team, he provides the drilling teams with new generation digital solutions to optimize Total’s operations.
